Winter Indoor Baking Fun (#100DaysofSunshine)

This post is Sponsored by Cuties but all thoughts are my own and of course my children’s! 🙂 We partnered with Cuties this winter as my kids absolutely love them and why not share them with you all today! During the winter months we spend a lot of time outside exploring, on the go and inside making memories by baking. Since this has been the coldest winter I can Possibly ever remember, most days have been spent in the kitchen. Some days bundling up five children to go outside to play, only for them to cry they are freezing five min later, just is not happening. So, Yesterday we decided to bake cuties gluten free cupcakes. This i also used as part of our homeschool lesson. It truly is amazing what your kids can learn just by being in the kitchen when you are cooking. Of course I had to work on a virtue of mine which was patience! 🙂 So after spilled milk, cracked eggs on the floor, it was nice to finally enjoy our cupcakes!!

Cuties Gluten Free Cupcakes

Prep time: 10 min or x2 or 3 if you have toddlers helping you!

Cook Time: 25 min

For the cake:

1 1/2 cups Ryze yellow bag flour

1 1/2 teaspoon gluten free baking powder

1/2 cup oil

2/3 organic sugar

3 large eggs, room temperature

1 teaspoon gluten-free vanilla extract

1 teaspoon Cuties juice

1 tablespoon fresh Cuties zest

1/2 cup milk of your choice

For the frosting:

1/2 cup butter (1 stick), room temperature

4 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon Cuties squeezed juice

4 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions:                                                                                                                                                                     1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F,(180c), line cupcake pan with paper liners; set     aside.

2.) In a medium bowl, whisk flour and baking powder; set aside.

3.) In a separate large bowl, combine oil and sugar.

4.) Add eggs one at a time, beating between each egg.

5.) Stir in vanilla extract, citrus juice, and Cuties zest.

6.) Add the flour mixture and dairy-free milk alternately to the wet ingredients and mix just until combined.

7.)  Divide batter among liners, filling them 2/3 full (about 1/4 cup of batter per cupcake).

8.) Bake for 20-25 min until your toothpick comes out clean.

9.) Cool completely before frosting.

10.) For frosting-beat butter until creamy. Add in Cuties juice and mix till combined. Beat in 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time, alternating with 1 tablespoon of milk. Add more or less milk for desired consistency.

11.) Pipe frosting

12.) Add Cuties shaving on top and enjoy!!!

Cuties are also a amazing snack for toddlers as they are easy for them to peel, seed free and super sweet. Siena will eat the whole bag in one setting if i would let her. I also love to peel one for Isaac and put in a teether for him to chew on, which he absolutely loves!!!

So all of this to say we will be enjoying Cuties for days to come until we cant find them in the grocery store. I would love to know if you have and Cuties recipe’s and if so please share. What do you do with yours? We love them in our house hold of 7!!!!

Breastfeeding Clothing

  Dress / Bra

I want to stop and talk about Breastfeeding Clothing. I wish I knew about, when I had my first baby to make Breastfeeding a little more comfortable, as for some its no easy task when having to nurse.

I discovered one of the best nursing bras I have worn in my almost 6 years straight of nursing babies. One of the most common questions I get is, what is my favorite nursing bra’s and this my friend’s is the one, it is by ThirdLove. I have always had one that would not hold its shape when washing, the quality would not be that great, and finding a great fit would also be very difficult. ThirdLove has made that so easy for you to find the perfect size, as they have went a step further and designed a chart to help you choose the perfect fit. Also for you moms who are no longer nursing they have them for you as well.

How gorgeous are these colors????? I want them all!!!

I also want to talk about Harper and Bay(Dresses) as this mom’s company started when she became a mother to her first child. She wanted to breastfeed, and soon after she was born she found out that breastfeeding would be the single most challenging and rewarding experience for her as a new mom. She had a hard time with her milk supply being low and poor Eden was starving. After working with an amazing lactation consultant, many pep talks from her husband and a LOT of fenugreek tablets, her milk finally came in and she was able to experience how great nursing a baby could be. On top of milk supply struggles, she also found it very hard to nurse in many of her clothes (especially dresses). Like I personally struggled with especially on Sunday mornings. She then decided to put her fashion design degree to good use and started designing and sewing prototypes of breastfeeding dresses. She started this company because she knew there was a need for dresses that make nursing easy but are also stylish and on trend.  What is even better is that you can still wear the dresses/tops even after breastfeeding. You don’t have to take my word for it. Try them as they are game changers! The design has a built in zipper that makes nursing so very easy and you are able to nurse a little more gracefully in public. So for all my nursing momma’s you will think you hit the jackpot…….that is how much of a game changer ThirdLove and Harper and Bay have been for me!!!

Please if you have any questions on nursing clothing ect. , just drop me a comment below!!

Isaac’s Sleep Sack and Sleep Pod

Sleep Sack / Sleep Pod / Blanket / Bunny / Pajamas(Roman)

So a lot of you have been asking about the new swaddle sack we got for Isaac + his little sleep pod~so I decided give a quick/review for you all. We’ve only used the sleep sack for a little over a week and so far I’m in love!! I will be ordering the blue one in the same size . The Zen Swaddle is perfect for newborns 0-6 months. It combines medically proven benefits of touch with swaddling and offers an embrace second only to yours. It also has a grow with me design and arms out feature so you can continue to use it after they outgrow their arms being swaddled.

I also have the THE ZEN SACK for Roman, (Roman is 22 months and can still wear the zen sack) when your little one is too big for a swaddle but is not quite ready to go cold turkey. I also love its reversible feature and double zipper design. Also no lose blankets and worrying about Roman getting cold at night.

I have swaddled ALL my babies from day one…and they all have loved to be swaddled and sleep better. I’ve never used a swaddle sack like this before, but Isaac and all my babies have learned how to get out of there swaddles and waking themselves up in the middle of the night.

So far so good and since using we have slept 6 hours at a time, at 5 weeks which was not happening before this sack as he would get his arms out swaddle, it was more like 2 to 3 hours. I had no clue something like this existed!! Where have I been????

After I get him comfy and swaddled in this swaddle sack I lay him in his Dock a Tot. I love this little pod because baby is safe and snuggly all the time. It’s safe for co-sleeping, and you can move it to any room in the house as you go about your day ~ which is what we do. We have also loved it for traveling and eventually when you go up to the bigger size (The Grand) it makes for easy transitioning to the crib. I have had the Deluxe Dock a Tot since Roman was born and it is by far another must have for baby to sleep. It’s is worth every penny. A baby item MUST HAVE.  I just lay the Dock a Tot  in his crib and place him in it and viola a sweet angel baby sleeping.

I hope this helps answer your questions. If you have any more questions or sleep questions just leave a comment below and I’ll try and answer asap. As well I would love to hear your sleep stories and how you get your little ones to sleep. Lots of love to all.

Here is a discount code for 15% off the zen sacks, KRISTEN15 !!!

Isaac Henry’s Birth Story

Welcome Isaac 8Ibs 5oz on May 18, 2017

Meet Isaac Henry. Already showing me patience, just like his brother Roman, who was born on his due date as well . That its on God’s time and not my time. With love and patience nothing is impossible. I now have five children and they are all under the age of five. WAIT, WHAT????

Earlier in the day ….. was the morning of my 40 week check up, I woke up very uncomfortable .  I was having stronger contractions and still no consistent pattern. The entire afternoon was like this. My appointment was that evening , since I was feeling so uncomfortable, my husband decided it was best to meet me at my doctors appointment.  They checked my blood pressure and it was high. I was so worried as I did not want to be induced , I was wanting to go in labor on my own and have a natural childbirth . My Doctor decided to check me and see how far dilated I was, as I was having contractions. I was still only 2-3 cm. No change from the week before.  So my doctor decided to just make sure everything was ok with my blood pressure, he checked us into the hospital . We arrived for blood work and to monitor my blood pressure which was perfect while we were there. Our doctor decided that i needed to come in the next morning to be induced, if I did not go into labor before then ,as my blood work was not looking great. I was so upset but knew I was in early stages of labor…

Later that evening… We were discharged from the hospital so I could go home and get my things together and our little one’s taken care of . On our way home, around 8pm my husband (Bryan) and I were hungry so we stopped to grab dinner . When we ordered I knew I was in active labor and we had to go immediatly . The contractions were strong and  coming every 5 min. We told the young man waiting on us we had to get our dinner to go because I was in labor , poor kid was terrified and turned white as a sheep . We still laugh at his response as to when we told him. I can’t blame him. We rushed home as my contractions were more intense. My Husband knew it was time , so he called our  Doula . Once my Doula arrived she asked a few questions and decided to put me on the peanut ball to help open my pelvis .

At this point my labor was progressing slow. I was on it off and on (in between bathroom breaks) for about two hours. The last time I got up to go to the bathroom I was in so much pain and finally felt him engaged. It all started happening so fast , my Doula said it is time to go to the hospital.  (If I was by myself without the support of my Husband and Doula I would have probably stayed at home as I hate to show up for them to say , “well your not really in labor.”) haha . On the ride to the hospital I could not sit and was in a lot of pain!  My husband was going like 100mph as he was scared he may deliver this little man in the truck.   He called labor and delivery to alert them we were, in his words, “COMING IN HOT…”. haha . Oh how he can make me laugh even in the most trying and difficult times.

When we arrived at the hospital around 1 a.m. I walked into the hospital in between a contraction and waiting on my husband and Elizabeth (Doula). I noticed things slow down a lot!!  So crazy I know right ????? I always have heard that the lights in a hospital can delay and slow things down when your in labor and I did not believe it until this happened to me.  When we got into the labor room,  my husband gave the nurses our birth plan. I only requested a heplock,  just in case of a emergency there was a way to administer drugs if need be. I was able to lay down and allow them to check and see how far dilated I was , I was only 5 cm . At this point i was exhausted and had no energy . My Doula suggested resting in between contractions that were still coming every five minutes apart. We all napped in between.  Boy am I glad I did we did.

Fast Foward… 6 hours later , I was still in a lot of pain. My Doula had me do several different positions to help me along. I felt like i would progress and he would go back up and not stay engaged. It was such a weird feeling . At this point my water still had not broke,  so we decided that  breaking my water would help progress things. He broke my water at 7:40a.m. and I felt the urge to push at 8am.  (We were all amazed at the amount of fluid). I also felt God near,  as with the birth of every new life he creates. I started pushing at 8a.m. and he was born after about 5 pushes at 8:10 ! I felt the world pause as I was able to take part in one of God’s greatest blessings he gives woman. After 12 hours of labor, I was finally able to hold him in my arms.  To date, this made my fourth successful VBAC and for this I was grateful !

My Doula , husband and nurses were so supportive and encouraged me the whole way through and for them i am grateful.

My pajamas

I am thankful for this amazing blessing as much as I am thankful for all the aches and pains that has made this a reality.

Thank each of you for your congratulations , love to all!

Packing for the Hospital

My pajamas also this is link for younger ones PJ’s  | Swaddles | Brush set | Bamboo Hooded towel | Baby Bamboo hooded bath Robe | Baby bonnet and blanket | Soothe Shirt

(all pictures were taken by Hannah Swain if you are local she takes amazing pictures go see her) @swainstudio

I thought since I’ve been through this just a handful of times that I would share some of my favorite must have items of what to pack in your hospital bag.

Also, I have been getting emails asking what I “specifically” pack in my hospital bag , so this post is for you. Below are some items I have come to need throughout the years with all 4 and almost 5 of my babies in those first few days at the hospital. I hope you will love them as much as i have. Also i have another bag i pack separately as i give Natural Childbirth. If you have any questions i will be happy to answer them in the comments 😉 !

packing bag:  I have loved my Target Bag  . It seriously is the best + it has organizational pockets inside and is a great size for a overnight stay.

robe + nightgown:  I always like to bring a robe to the hospital. It is just easy to nurse in and you can cover up in a second for those last minute guests. I pretty much keep my robe on the whole time as it makes skin to skin so much easier and I wear a nursing camisole underneath that is easy to stretch for skin to skin.

Nursing BraI love to always pack two incase one I leak when my milk comes in but this is one of my favorite nursing bras and so comfy!

pajamasI love These pajamas that I’m wearing in the pictures above for when my other little ones come and to take a few pictures in .

slippers + socks:  I don’t know about you, but I feel like hospitals are always so so cold and my feet freeze. Having a pair of socks and slippers are a must need in those cold hospital rooms.

compression underwear or leggings:  I put these on as soon as I can walk! If you have a C-Section they suggest waiting a little longer to wear anything so check with your Dr.  These compression underwear have always helped my hips go back down and the higher wasted leggings help with compression around the stomach as well.

belly bandit:  I tried this for the first time after Roman and absolutely loved it. Honestly this thing got me back to my pre-pregnancy size faster and totally made my hips go back down!! So worth it and Amazing!!

lily padz and organic nipple creamI found these amazing Lily Padz with my third child and I will not go back to normal nursing pads!! These are amazing and will stick to your skin and you don’t have to wear a bra at night! Also, this nipple cream is a must if you have soreness or cracking during nursing.

essentials for face and bodyI know you will probably want to at least shower and wash your face to freshen up after baby as I always do. Here are a few essentials I like to take. And its all safe for mommy and nursing baby. I love the nourishing face wash and bath collection!

coming home outfit:  I don’t feel ready to wear jeans or anything around my belly and I’d rather have something loose and flowy while my belly is still going down. I usually opt for a simple dress. I love this one and this one as well.

Lalabubaby Soothe Shirt: This i have had since my first child and i absolutely love how i can put them in my shirt and go. With 5 kids under 5 its nice to be hands free fast and still able to soothe my newborn. By far one of the best inventions! i will share more later after baby arrives!!!

swaddle blankets:  I love to swaddle my babies the first chance I get! The babies love it and it always helps them sleep better. These blankets are amazing because they are lightweight, big, and my babies stay swaddled in them!

two onesie outfits: I like to bring a couple of onesie outfits along with me to the hospital. A favorite of mine is always the classic white onesies from gap and little wrap shirts.

hats boy + hats girl:  I love to put the little hats on my babes. Because I think they lose most of their body heat through their little heads. Not only are they so cute, but they help keep them warm too.

socks:  These are a must have… so those little piggies don’t get cold. Plus the tiny ones you can pass on to all your babies.

baby towel and shampoo: I like to bring my own towel as hospital towels are so rough and i like to use our own baby shampoo when they get first bath. I love the baby collection from Beautycounter it is safe and free from any toxins and the baby oil is great for the newborn dry skin!!!

brushAMAZING BABY BRUSH , (I have the set which I use for my older children and we love love) ! With the finest bristles, made from all natural goat hair, you can softly brush your baby’s hair and massage his scalp both for grooming and relaxation. Perfect set for a healthy, cheerful baby! This is Great if your little one has a lot of hair and you want to tame for pictures 😉 .

binkis:  The Natursutten brand have always been the kind of binki’s if I choose one . I absolutely love the Natursutten brand as its free from harmful Chemicals+Toxin Free. I also used the nuk one as its the only one my youngest took at first then he decided his fingers were much better 😉 !!!

baby coming home outfit: Girl and Boy I always love to dress my little ones up for pictures, coming home. My grandmother has so far bought all of my little ones coming home outfit and its become a tradition and I love traditions, so special!! We usually buy them at a local friends baby boutique where we live and she has amazing baby things! But I linked a few favorites here and here !!!
